The COVID-19 pandemic has engendered unprecedented drastic and costly measures to obviate the threat. Will something similar happen in relation global heating? No, this is not likely. Mainly do with a difference nature of collective action. Nation states protect their respective populations against virus. With regard heating, we are facing tragedy commons. No government assumes responsibility for our common future. However, there may be another further explanation lurking behind political inaction: many people, including politicians, think that it does matter if humanity goes extinct. It matter, however. Strangely enough, view matters questioned by important philosophers past present, hence controversial. Yet, should common-sense stance problem. utmost importance will sentient happy life on globe an indefinite time. Theoretically speaking, order recognize this, need accept some “total” view, implying what been called repugnant conclusion. Practically go great length rescue human civilisation, even means that, while, must endure all sorts hardships such as enlightened despotism, or worse—a situation boat ethics.
